Ready, Set, GO! Getting Started: Integration of Climate Change into your State Wildlife Action Plan City Center B Co-hosted by the Teaming with Wildlife and Climate Change Committees and the National Wildlife Federation.
Climate Change is now recognized as the leading threat to wildlife and the habitats they depend upon. Several states are leading the effort to integrate the impacts and actions needed into their state wildlife action plans. All states will eventually be updating their action plans, coupled with the requirement for adaptation strategies in the pending cap and trade legislation make this a necessary action.
This workshop will share issues, questions, and “how-to’s” on starting to address climate change in your agency with a particular focus on integration into state wildlife action plans. States from each region (WA, FL, MN and MA) will explain the tools, resources, and process they are using including where they are getting the best scientific information and expertise, stakeholder involvement, workshops, lessons learned so far. Extensive discussion time is included in the workshop. Suggestions to the newly formed working group of these two committees will be welcomed.
Additionally, we will cover funding for such work and the role of state agencies and the associated Teaming with Wildlife coalition to help ensure we obtain the much needed dedicated funding in federal climate change legislation.
